How long after Depo....?

I stopped taking depo nov 2010 (i was on it for about 1 yr). my husband and I have been unofficially trying for another child since Nov. nothing has happened yet and i was wondering how long it takes after you stop depo. i was told by some friends that depo can make you sterile over time... is 1yr long enough to do that?
