What is wrong with a PG leading the team?

Nothing. The point guard is evolving. They are now more athletic than ever. They are not limited to setting up other people. We are seeing a lot more combo guards nowadays, just like in the old days when there weren't point guards and shooting guards. Just guards. Any position can be the leader. As long as they're good, I wouldn't care which position was the leader.
